JAMES MARSHALL BLACK
Singer, songwriter, musician, sound engineer, music producer, biker & madman a description that can be used in any order.
Newcastle born James Marshall Black comes from a hard working family background and is a self taught guitarist who appears just as happy with an acoustic guitar than rocking as an axeman on wild rock songs.
He formed his first band at school aged 14 called ?Black Ice.? James went on to compose music for a touring dramatics company in the North East of England while still aged only 15. This involved composing three pieces of music for an adaptation of J M Barrie's Peter Pan, adapted by C P Taylor for a more urban 20th Century audience. James was selected out of hundreds of young composers.
By age 17 he was touring the UK with metal pop/rock outfit Maiden Voyage (highest chart position 19 with the Black penned track: Heart of the Galaxy in the Newcastle HMV chart).
At the age of 19 James moved away from his town of birth to settle in London and around that time recorded the track ?Stolen Days? which can be heard on his You Tube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/acmegarexproductions
It is very clear who he was listening to as his vocals are very much influenced by Marc Bolan on ?Stolen Days?. However James admits thou that his love of music covers many genre?s which explains why as one musician friend once told me ?James is like a chameleon like they change colours he can fit into any style (genre) and sound like he belongs?.
At 19 James got into various projects with Mark Laff (Generation X, Billy Idol). Ian McKean (Balaam and the Angel), Dave Hopper (Little Angels), Pet Hate (Sheffield Rockers), Faster Pussycat, Twenty Flight Rockers and The Unloved.
In July 2007 he released his first solo record, the single ?Long Live Summer? on the Little Bigfire label. This track may be featured on his album ?This is? James Marshall Black? being released 2011 after the ?Tyrant Lizard King? album.
His influences in life vary greatly from conflict, love, hate, Rolls Royce Merlin Engines, Spitfires, Chieftain tanks, dockers, miners, metal workers & Marshall amps.
To musically by punk, metal, rock, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, David Bowie, Motorhead, AC/DC, Billy Idol, Eddie Cochran, Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Elvis Presley to name just a few but the main man that has influenced him greatly is Marc Bolan.
James left London some years ago and resides in the heart of deepest Surrey where in his attic is his beloved ?Lofty Skies Studio? built 2009 where many new tracks for himself and other artists have been lovingly created.
James three favourite sayings are ?
?If you speak your mind and always be honest you?ll have few friends, but the ones you will have will be worth knowing.?
?Apologies don?t come from weak people.?
And, "If they can't fart in your face they'll fart through your letterbox"
The future holds much as James has just released a Marc Bolan cover album ?Tyrant Lizard King? on CD.
This is available on his official website http://www.jamesmarshallblack.com
Also his working on his own material on an album ?This is? James Marshall Black? to be released early 2011 on download and he is also producing co-writing with other artists.
James admits he loves to set aside time to go out meet his fans, perform a few acoustic concerts and has performed a live on CRMK Radio ?The Groove Lounge? and also appeared as guest DJ on LG73 The Ramoana Experience & LG73's All Things Ace MegaRex.
James is working on a set of FREE downloads to be given to owners of his CD release 'Tyrant Lizard King' which are 9 tracks and be released to the owners of the album on 10th Oct 2011.
James has plans also to film some new action videos of him performing tracks from his albums which is all new for James but exciting as the creative ideas are already flowing.
